Ranked #1 by readers of Golf Monthly (HSBC regional course ranking), Horsley Lodge Golf Course was inspired by the late Bill White, who suggested to the owner of the land, John Salt, that he should build a golf course here in 1988. Greens were re-designed in 1999 by Britain's Walker Cup captain and former World Champion, Peter McEvoy. It was the first USGA specification 18 hole course in The Midlands and is quite spectacular.

Expertly moulded into 168 acres of wonderful Derbyshire countryside, this remains a thinking course where a variety of shot making skills are necessary to arrive at the green. Greens are fast, true and massive, with some incredible contours.

McEvoy's design skills have made it a wonderful golfing experience. It can be both easy and difficult at the same time. Higher handicappers can club down, heroes can go for it. Each year it matures and now the trees really define the holes. As Golf Monthly put it in its Course Guide 2004: "Horsley is a 'must visit ' course....those last three holes would not be out of place at a major!" Further praise arrived this year when Horsley Lodge was awarded "Silver Medal" for the Midlands section in their Best Course Guide. Horsley really is a must visit course and we recommend that you do!
